Secondhand Smoke is not just Smoke !!!
Secondhand smoke (SHS) is smoke from burning tobacco products, such as cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. It is the smoke that has been exhaled, or breathed out, by the person smoking.
Secondhand smoke is a serious health hazard causing more than 41,000 deaths per year. It can cause or make worse a wide range of damaging health effects in children and adults, including lung cancer, respiratory infections and asthma. It causes approximately 7,330 deaths from lung cancer and 33,950 deaths from heart disease each year.
Tobacco smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, including hundreds that are toxic and about 70 that can cause cancer. Here are some of the chemicals:
Formaldehyde - used to embalm dead bodies
Benzene - found in gasoline
Polonium - radioactive and very toxic
Vinyl Chloride -used to make pipes
Chromium - used to make steel
Arsenic - Used in pesticide
Lead - used in paint
Cadmium - used in batteries
Carbon Monoxide - found in car exhaust
Butane - used as lighter fluid
