PRICKLY HEAT

Prickly heat — also known as heat rash, miliaria and bungang araw — isn't just for babies. It affects adults, too, especially during hot, humid weather. Heat rash develops when blocked pores (sweat ducts) trap perspiration under your skin.

Symptoms
-Red bumps or rashes on the skin
-Mild swelling of the affected part
-Itchy or prickly sensation similar to mild sunburn

Risk Factors
-Wearing of tight clothing
-Excessive sweating
-Overweight and obesity

Treatment and Management
-Most prickly heat rashes resolve on its own once the skin cools.
-Take frequent baths or shower
-Let the skin air-dry instead of using towels
-Allow the skin to be exposed to circulating air
-Wear loose clothing made of breathable fabrics like cotton
-Avoid using heavy and oil based ointments or lotions that can irritate the skin
-Apply water based skin protectants
-Apply prickly heat powder to reduce itching
-Avoid scratching the rashes to get rid of infections

Consult a physician if there is excessive itching or rashes are infected.
